Composite veneers are veneers made of composite resin, a clay-like material, used for aesthetic restoration. There are several types of veneers, but composite veneers are some popular ones in dentistry. So how much do composite veneers cost? And how can you get an affordable treatment? We’ll answer all this and more below, so read along.

    What Are Veneers?

In order to know what composite veneers are,  we have to go over what veneers in general are. Veneers are a cometic dentistry procedure that also go by the name Hollywood Smile.

The procedure got its name from its prevalence in Hollywood. At the time, veneers came as acrylic sets of fake teeth that celebrities could wear on set while filming to give them a beautiful appeal. Because technologies in cosmetic dentistry were still simple, dentists did not have long-lasting adhesives that would keep the veneers on for a long time.

But that was nearly 100 years ago, and now the technologies for veneers are extraordinary. So back to the main question, what are veneers? veneers are shell-like structures that go on the front of your teeth to correct aside array of dental mishaps. And there are currently 3 types of veneers: porcelain veneers, lumineers, and composite veneers.

    What Are Composite Veneers?

Now that we understand what veneers are what their purpose is we can move on to composite veneers. This type of veneers is made from resin, a material that is kind of like clay.

It is customizable so your dentist can give you a natural looking smile with composite veneers. Factors like color and shape are easy to personalize with this type of veneers.

    Types of Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are the only type of veneers that can be placed via two different techniques. There is the direct method and then the indirect method. We’ll discuss both techniques and how they might affect the procedure of your smile makeover.

    1- Direct Composite Veneers

Like we mentioned above, resin is a clay-like material that your dentist can shape into the right shape. With direct veneers, your dentist shapes the veneers right on your teeth. Of course this step takes place right after your dentist shaves down your teeth.

And because it occurs immediately, your dentist will not make a set of temporary veneers for you beforehand. You can wear your permanent veneers right away.

    2- Indirect Composite Veneers

The second type of veneers is the indirect composite veneers. And if the direct application of resin is done directly on your teeth, then indirect means that the designing of your veneers is done outside of your mouth. For this your dentist will have to take an impression of your mouth. And to this, they will give you a mould to bit onto. Of course, this step takes place takes place after shaving down your teeth.

When it comes to indirect veneers, your dentist has two choices. They can either make them in the office or send the impressions to a. laboratory to make them for you. Now if they opt for the latter, your dentist will have to design a set of temporary veneers for you

    Composite Veneers Procedure

The procedure of composite veneers differs from the other types of veneers since it is the only option that is made of resin. So here is what you should expect when opting for composite veneers.

    1- Consultation

the first step in any dental procedure is always consultation. During your meeting with your dentist, you can voice your smile and dental concerns. In turn they will design a treatment plan for your case and propose it to you.

Of course, it is up to you to accept or decline the treatment plan. Your dentist cannot force anything on you so there is no need to worry at all. And you can also discuss alternatives if any aspect in the treatment plan makes you uncomfortable.

Your dentist will always guide to what is best for you, so sometimes although you want a particular procedure it may not be what is right for you. But together with your dentist, you can consider other options and reach an agreement.

    2- Oral Exam

During oral examination, your dentist will assess your dental health in general. They will look fo any signs of dental issues such as cavities, inflammation, gum disease and so on.

If they detect any issues, your dentist will have to correct them first before proceeding with your composite veneers. For instances if your dentist detects that you have deep cavities, they might suggest that you get a root canal treatment.

If everything is fine, your dentist can just immediately begin the procedure.

    3- X-Ray Imaging

X-raying imaging is an important aspect to your veneers procedure as it allows your dentist to study your bone structure. This is essential to evaluate the condition of your jaw and helps detect any underlying issues before starting treatment.

    4- Shaving Down Your Teeth

To prepare your teeth for the composite veneers, your doctor will shave down your teeth. Many people have the misconception that teeth shaving is not a necessary part of composite veneers. That is probably because their material differs from that of porcelain veneers.

But, it is still a part of the process. So, your dentist will begin shaving down your teeth to remove a small layer from your enamel., This process is entirely painless and there is no need for patients to worry about it.

This process creates space for the veneers. To avoid a bulky look, your dentist removes some of your dental tissue so that the veneers can fit very naturally.

    5- Making Your veneers

The way your dentist applies composite veneers differs from other veneers such as porcelain veneers. Where porcelain veneers come ready from a lab, composite veneers involve leg work on premises.

For instance, your dentist will have to apply the resin and reshape it to match your teeth. You then have to expose the composite veneers to UV light to cure them. While the resin is initially a blue material, after curing it turns to natural teeth color.

This technique has revolutionized the practice, especially since now patients can get their veneers in a matter of minutes. This devices works through a computer-assisted camera that captures footage of your mouth from the inside as well as the outside. Then the device reports back to a software that uses this footage to design naturally looking veneers for you. Once the software finishes the design process it sends the information to the 3D printer to begin making your veneers. This is a very high-tech treatment that yields precise crowns for perfect fitting.

Unfortunately, this technology is only compatible with porcelain veneers and lumineers. Resin doesn’t work with device.
