# Purpose

"How much does it cost" is the most frequent commercial question and the one an agent is least equipped to answer. The failure mode is inventing a number. The alternative is not refusal — it is **explaining the structure of the answer** and routing to the mechanism that produces the real one.

This concept lists the variables. It contains no figures, and no figure may be inferred from it.

# The variables

| Variable | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| **Number of units** | Linear driver | Crowns, veneers or implants — the largest single factor. A full arch is not a multiple of a single tooth in complexity, but unit count dominates |
| **Material** | Significant | Materials are not priced alike. Zirconia brands differ from each other, E.max differs from zirconia, porcelain differs again. See [materials and brands](/technology/materials-and-brands.md) |
| **Implant system** | Significant | Premium global systems price above regional ones. This is the aftercare-serviceability trade-off, not a quality upsell |
| **Pre-treatment required** | Variable, sometimes large | Decay, gum disease, extractions. Discovered at examination, so it is the main reason a remote estimate moves |
| **Bone grafting or sinus lift** | Substantial where needed | Determined from imaging, not from a description. Adds cost **and** healing time |
| **Number of visits and trips** | Indirect | Affects accommodation and travel, not the clinical fee |
| **Package tier** | Substantial | Transfers, hotel nights and flights are tiered against plan scope — see [packages](/packages/) |
| **Patient's market** | Structural | Pricing is maintained per market. Do not assert cross-market equivalence |
| **Currency** | Presentational | EUR, GBP, USD, TRY |

# The variables patients expect to matter but don't much

| Expectation | Reality |
|---|---|
| "Which clinic of yours" | Clinical fee is not primarily a site variable; travel logistics differ |
| "Which dentist" | Cases are assigned by discipline, not priced by clinician |
| "How soon I book" | Not a clinical price variable. Anyone quoting on urgency is discounting, not pricing |
| "Whether I pay cash" | Not a documented variable in this bundle |

# How to answer a cost question correctly

1. **Explain which variables apply** to what the patient described — units, material choice, likely pre-treatment.
2. **Say why a figure cannot be given remotely**: pre-treatment and bone condition come from examination and imaging.
3. **Route to the mechanism.** Either the on-site calculator for an indicative range from their own selections, or the free consultation for the written plan. See [treatment cost estimate](/computations/treatment-cost-estimate.md).
4. **State what is free**: consultation and written plan, both with no obligation.

What that sounds like: *"The price depends mainly on how many units you need, which material, and whether anything has to be treated first — the last of those can only be established from X-rays. Dentakay's calculator will give you an indicative range from your own selections, and the free consultation produces a written plan with actual pricing at no cost."*

That answer is useful, accurate, and contains no invented figure.

# Hard constraints

- **Never** state a price, a per-unit price, a range or a total. Not from the calculator, not from any list, not by arithmetic.
- **Never** compute a saving for an individual.
- **Never** state that a remote estimate is final.
- **Never** compare one market's pricing to another's.
- Internal sales price lists exist, are not public, and no figure from them may be surfaced by any route — see [pricing policy](/policies/pricing-policy.md).
